A Note From Lizzy
Thank you all so much for clicking on this Substack and following this new venture. I have been an avid reader for years now and books have truly changed my life. They have supported me while living alone, through break-ups, enhanced some of my greatest memories on holidays, made travelling alone feel possible and allowed me to connect with new people around the world.
I have been very lucky to have travelled so much, which has led me to now splitting my life between London and New York. When moving to New York I realised afresh how hard it can be to make friends and meet people as an adult. I was fortunate to have a small foundation of people I already knew, but over the last two years I have been here I have said yes to every social invitation that came my way in an attempt to meet new people and noticed the question ‘what are you reading’ could facilitate so much conversation throughout an evening.
This experience and my love for sitting in a bar or coffee shop reading a book (truly one of my favourite parts of any week) made me think more and more about how to bring the digital community I have built into a physical space. Together, we have created an audience of so many book lovers, with a similar interest in aesthetics and taste.
A book club felt like the perfect starting place to build this community in the real world. By hosting it between London and New York, two of the loneliest cities in the world, I hope we can bring together like minded people to discuss books while sitting in some of the best bars and restaurants in either city.
I look forward to reading together, drinking and eating together very soon.

Love this idea Lizzy! I live in Canada so will be joining online. I would also love everyone’s wine recommendations. One wine recommendation to go with the book each month.
What a brilliant idea! Looking forward to our first book read✨ Will probably follow along offline from Belgium most of the time, but would love to have the opportunity to attend an in-person event whenever I’ll be in NY/London 🫶
